King George Sound is a wildlife winter honeypot, protected from north, west and south winds. A sheltered amphitheatre for a play where the humans are invisible players riding on a boat across a stage – a storm swept, sunny sparkle…. or rolling sheet of lead.
Well winter is now with us and the school holidays as well and a fair few have already headed north for that warmer weather. On the local scene angler will be out and about on the better days and for those that do not have a boat shore based fish in winter can produce some reasonable fish. It is a great time of year for skippy of which we have 2 species along the southcoast the smaller is a sand trevally which grow to about 20cm and the silver trevally which grows to 90cm plus.
Other fish caughtthis time of year;
sand whiting, herring, silver bream, garfish and a few king george, squid, leatherjacket and salmon.
Give these spots a try;
Cheynes Beach, Little Beach, Sand Patch, Cosy Corner, Shelly Beach, Town Marina, Frenchmans Bay, Goode Beach and Albany Salmon Holes.
Try these baits;
whitebait, prawns, bluebait, squid and cockles.
My goodness it's certainly knitting weather now, isn't it? Good for felting, too, as all that rolling action warms you up! I am offering 2 felt workshops:
Introduction to felting workshop on Saturday 28th July from 2-5pm. Cost will be $60 which includes fibre and a felting kit to make a beautiful scarf (come and see some samples in the shop).
Make a felt bag on Saturday 4th August from 2-5pm, cost for this one will be $65.00 which includes fibre and felting kit. A sample for this will be on display in the shop as of Tuesday next week. Some previous felting experience is necessary for this workshop.
