Albany Whale Tours Whale Watch Newsletter No 2

Hi Everyone

My apologies for not sending out information earlier in the season.  Life has been very busy for us at the waterfront and as we have a very active Facebook page managed by Anke, the newsletter has not had the focus it should have.

The school holidays brought many people to Albany, and the sightings of whales have been excellent.  We hope you saw the photo of ‘Sail-A-Way’ on page 3 of the West and on the front page of the Albany Advertiser last week.

Though we have had many days of stormy weather this winter – days too rough to go out watching whales – we have had some successful tours as well.  Below is a brief summary of the days since last Friday.

Friday July 18 - Wonderful weather again and very excitingly, both our vessels were booked for whale tours.  Passengers on both boats had very good sightings of flipper flapping and general whale play!

Saturday July 19 - Both Sail-A-Way and the Gemini WaveRider were out again – with great sightings of 6 Humpbacks at Bald Head, 2 more off Breaksea Island and 2 at Seal Rock.  Several great breaches – most of all, good company….good fun….beautiful scenery and great food.  Exhilaration plus!

Sunday July 20 - More of the beautiful weather Albany can turn on – fine, mild, calm and sunny.  Fantastic day.  Two groups of three humpbacks swimming and courting around our boat; 9 Humpbacks seen in total.  Seals, dolphins, whales and birds.  Nature at its best!

Monday July 21 - Great day whale watching.  12 Humpbacks off Bald Head.  4 whales surfing in our stern wave or wake…just like dolphins….only bigger….MUCH BIGGER!!

Wednesday July 23 - Another wonderful day out on the water, hanging out the back of Bald Head with a pod of 5 Humpbacks.  We were treated to some awesome breaches while 4 Albatross glided effortlessly about the boat.  We visited the seal colony and caught up with a couple more whales on the return journey.
