Media Release from South Coast Natural Resource Management

South Coast NRM has extended its commitment to the Noongar community by producing a series of short career pathway films, which it hopes will inspire Aboriginal youth to consider a profession in natural resource management (NRM).

The eight videos feature informal interviews with a diversity of personalities working in the NRM sector and range from a young man with aspirations to be a botanist, to a young woman embarking on a government traineeship.

Breeding hopes for WA’s rarest bird

  • Seven western ground parrots transferred from Department of Parks and Wildlife’s south coast aviary to Perth Zoo to start captive breeding program
  • Joint effort between the Department of Parks and Wildlife, Perth Zoo and volunteer-run Friends of the Western Ground Parrot

Seven critically endangered western ground parrots have been transferred by the Department of Parks and Wildlife from a secluded south coast enclosure to Perth Zoo, where it is hoped they will successfully breed.

Albany Whale Tours Whale Watch Newsletter No 2

Hi Everyone

My apologies for not sending out information earlier in the season.  Life has been very busy for us at the waterfront and as we have a very active Facebook page managed by Anke, the newsletter has not had the focus it should have.

The school holidays brought many people to Albany, and the sightings of whales have been excellent.  We hope you saw the photo of ‘Sail-A-Way’ on page 3 of the West and on the front page of the Albany Advertiser last week.

Rare chuditch sighting in Albany area

  • Chuditch spotted in Albany for the first time in 15 years
  • Chuditch numbers have increased due to fox control programs

A rare marsupial not seen in the Albany region for more than 15 years has been sighted by a Department of Parks and Wildlife officer at Two Peoples Bay.

Making the announcement while in Albany today, Environment Minister Albert Jacob said the chuditch was spotted and later photographed by ranger Mark True.
