Vintage Blues Festival Postponement

Media Release: Wignalls Wines – Vintage Blues Festival
Date: Monday 21 October 2013

“It is with profound regret that the 18th Vintage Blues Festival for the 4th of January 2014 has been postponed until Saturday 10 January 2015”, said Wignall’s Wines Managing Director Rob Wignall.
“The past two festivals have not been without their challenges and we have decided that it is timely to review all aspects of the event so that we can return reinvigorated, bigger and better in 2015.”

“This has been a large and difficult decision to make for the Wignall family, and realize that the postponement will have a profound effect on the entire community and especially tourism related industries”
“In what would have been its eighteenth consecutive year, the event continues to be an iconic major drawcard on the Albany Events calendar and it is important that we ensure that the Vintage Blues Festival is around for many years to come” said Rob.
“To ensure the long term viability of the event, our comprehensive review will include the music mix, programme format, public amenities, ticketing processes, marketing options, and a general assessment of how we can reinvent and refresh all that the Vintage Blues festival has to offer both locals and visitors to Albany alike. The review will also address funding options and how the Vintage Blues Festival can garner greater support and work more closely with local tourism, council and event operators”, he said.
The Vintage Blues Festival has played a significant part in the careers of now celebrated musicians such as John Butler, The Waifs, and Kasey Chambers who were virtual unknowns when they first appeared at the festival in previous years. It is envisaged that future festivals will again showcase new talent providing a valuable launching pad for promising musical careers, as well as feature seasoned favourites who all love appearing at the Vintage Blues in Albany in early January each year.
