A little bit of history

The Woodanilling district was first explored by Europeans in 1830/31, when Captain Thomas Bannister led the first overland expedition from Perth to King George Sound.

Woodanilling was named after a spring in the Boyerine Creek one kilometre south of the townsite. This spring, situated among the casuarinas and flood gums, used to flow into a beautiful pool which became the gathering place for the districts new settlers. It became known as Round Pool.

Woodanilling is an Aboriginal name, first recorded as the alternative name of Round Pool in 1874.

A townsite named Woodanilling was gazetted in February 1892.
