Old Police Station Mt Barker
Situated within the Plantagenet Shire.
Named in 1831 by the Governor, Captain James Stirling
Mt Barker is the administrative centre of the Plantagenet Shire and services a wide agricultural area of 4792 square kilometres that includes the townships of Kendenup, Narrikup and Rocky Gully.
Previously noted for apples, sheep and cattle the district has also successfully diversified into viticulture, wildflowers, berries, cherries, herbs and tourism and now boasts of having the most modern cattle saleyards in the Southern Hemisphere
The Shire of Plantagenet is an ideal holiday area that includes the spectacular Stirling ranges and the Porongurup Ranges. There is ample accommodation, dining, shopping and recreational facilities and is within easy reach of the Southern Coastline of Albany and Denmark.
