Prasophyllum gibbosum
Common name: Humped Leek Orchid
Colour: purple and white

This pretty little sweetly-scented orchid grows in wet peaty swamps and flowers profusely following a summer fire - at its best in October. It was first collected by the famous botanist, Robert Brown, in December 1801, from the King George Sound area.It can grow to about 36cm tall.

Thelymitra crinita
Common name: Blue Lady or Lily Orchid
Colour : Brilliant blue

A very beautiful and wide spread orchid; can grow to about 70cm high and have a dozen or more flowers on one stem. This is a Sun Orchid, so best to look for it on a sunny day from September to November.

Leptocerus menziesii Common name: Rabbit Orchid
Colour: dark red and white

No mistaking this cheery little orchid with its red upright "ears" (really its petals). Usually growing in colonies so that it looks like a bunch of rabbits. It grows to about 30cms high in winter wet areas, but usually needs a disturbance or summer fire to flower.

Corybas recurvus
Common name: Helmet Orchid
Colour: dark red

This tiny orchid rarely grows more than 3cm in height, flowering between July and September, in coastal scrub and Peppermints (Agonis sp.) along the south coast west of Albany. These are usually large colonies of leaves and a few flowering plants.

Caladenia plicata
Common name: Crab-lipped Spider Orchid
Colour: Red, yellow with black calli on labellum

This distinctive orchid, growing up to 34cm high, has a wide labellum with a long fringe which wavers in the slightest breeze. In the Albany area it appears to grow in sandy Banksia or Sheoak (Allocasuarina sp.) country; flowering September, October.

Caladenia discordia Common name: Dancing Spider or Bee Orchid
Colour: Red, greenish yellow

This unusual spider orchid can grow to about 40cms high, and in the Albany area flowers from August to October in sandy Banksia country. Its labellum is deeply fringed and has four rows of dark coloured calli.

Caladenia applanata subsp. applanata
Common name: Broad-lipped Spider Orchid
Color: red, green

This orchid is a coastal species of heath and Peppermint (Agonis sp.) woodland, flowering September, October. It can grow to about 50cm high and has variably coloured flowers and a broad flat labellum.
Caladenia lobata
Common name: Butterfly Orchid
Colour: Red, yellow, green

Growing sometimes to 50cm high, this orchid is well named the Butterfly, when its broad long fringed labellum is seen wavering in the breeze. It grows in dense bushland on slopes to creeks and rivers, or damp areas, and flowers from September to November.
