Q.   Why is GateWAy called ALBANY GateWAy when it is described as " bringing the Great Southern on-line?

A.   If you want a detailed answer then click on the " About Us" button on the main Page. In short, after much discussion about naming GateWAy it was decided to add ALBANY as a location finder. There are many more references on the Internet to the words Great, Southern and just plain gateway. Really, and eventually as GateWAy grows, it will be referred to as just "GateWAy" or even the " Great Southern GateWAy"!

Q.   If I live in Ongerup, Katanning or Woodanilling the GateWAy is still my Regional community web site?

A.   Absolutely, and if you live anywhere in the Great Southern you have a right to participate in GateWAy. e.g. list you name, business or organisation, advertise or write articles for your town site, use our secure electronic e-commerce transaction system, and much more!

Q.   How can I participate in my town's web site development?

A.   If your town has a Telecentre then call your Telecentre. Your Shire Council will also have information about GateWAy. Most contact numbers will eventually be accessible through the specific town pages on GateWAy. You can also BECOME AN EDITOR of a sub-topic or topic for your Town. Just e-mail keeper@albanygateway.com.au and ask :)!

Q.   How do I get to control the input of information (e.g. events, sporting scores, community info ), on our community GateWAy web site ?

A.   GateWAy uses a Distributed Publishing System ( DPS ), which enables the updating and posting of user specific information at anytime. The DPS will be accessible in a number of different locations throughout the Great Southern.

A.   Click on the subscribe button and fill out the form.

Q.   How do I advertise on GateWAy?

A.  There are a number of different ways to advertise.

  1. Banner ads (Header and footers ). These are scrolling banners on which any Business can advertise their goods and services for $500/month on the main page, or $250/month on any single town page.
  2. Static ads (inserted in the different category listings e.g. Albany Recreation and Sport listing might carry an ad for Albany Fitness and Hire.) $50/month.
  3. Classifieds – which will appear only on the town pages and be rated per number of words. e.g. 25c/word.

Q.    If I have any ideas about GateWAY who will listen to me?

A.   The Manager will usually reply to any query about GateWAy, so e-mail or call on the numbers already listed, or write to Albany GateWAy Frederick House Frederick Street ALBANY 6330.

Q.   I’ve heard GateWAy is going to help businesses become e-commerced. How do I learn how?

A:   GateWAy will be running an e-GateWAy Incubator business project starting in March 2000. This will initially assist 6-10 local businesses become e-commerced.

Once we’ve run this trial, e-GateWAy will offer more workshops, information, support and secure transaction services thereafter. For more information contact the Albany GateWAy Manager. ( See the Business and E-Commerce categories on the site.)

Q.  Will I need a business plan before attempting e-commerce?

A.  If you are running a business it is probably a good idea to have one before starting to electronically transact. If you want free advice or financial assistance for preparing a business, contact Robert Siegel at the Albany Business Centre, phone: 98 98418477. He will guide you down the right path!

A..  Contact your local Telecentre or Great Southern Regional College office. The contact numbers and information for these are accessible through the main and town pages of the GateWAy site.

Q.   I’ve heard that trading on the Internet is risky. Is this so?

A.   It can be, however GateWAy will be using the latest Secure Socket technology SSL, through our own secure GateWAy server. We will ensure maximum protection for all our clients using this system.

    Q.   Customer Service is an imperative for our business. Does e-commerce take some of the pressure off?

    A.   Yes, in some ways, but customer service and quality produccts remains an imperative. GateWAy with its e-commerce capability will allow your suppliers and consumers to transact on-line and provide greater reach to your target markets. Order checking, dispatch, responding to e-mails, after sales service and management remains the same. It is the whole process that’s important to your customers, not just the tools you use to get there.
