Diversity is the word in the Great Southern environment. The region sits on the edge of the Fitzgerald River National Park, a biodiversity hot spot, and the Great Southern boasts a wide range of environmental attractions.
Wildflowers abound in spring and the region is especially noted for its wide range of orchids. If you’ve got flowers, you’ve got birds and the Albany branch of the Wildflower Society and Albany Bird Group page here on the Albany Gateway can show you the wide range of birds spotted in the region.
The Bushcarers Group is a group of environmentally concerned residents of the Albany area who endeavour to raise awareness to stop the continuing degradation of our bushland.
There’s diversity in the waters of the Southern Ocean too. Learn how to identify the whales that cruise past during the season here on our whale page, find out about Whale World or book a whale watching cruise.
