The White Hart Hotel owned by Southern Brewing Co was one of Albany's first Local Breweries until 1906. It was demolished in 1909 for the construction of a new two-storey building and was renamed the White Star hotel and reopened in 1910.
It was purchased in March 2006 and after a comprehensive refurbishment it re-opened in July incorporating Tanglehead Brewery.
The true reason for the “Tanglehead” name is not known though there are few sketchy stories... The most common is that apparently this beer was nick named after the effect that it had on the drinker and the similarity to a strong brew back in the UK so the locals chose to adopt the name.
We now proudly brew under the name Tanglehead Brewery, continuing Albany's 130 year tradition and in honour to its first beer "Tanglehead".
The White Star Hotel now incorporates everything you could want in a venue, FOOD-BREWERY-MUSIC-FUNCTIONS.
Our family friendly restaurant is open 7 days for Lunch and Dinner. The menu choices are varied from our fabulous steak sandwiches and beer battered fish and chips to fresh light tasty salads. We also have more substantial meals including delicious steaks and share plates. Over a glass of local wine or our award winning Tanglehead brews what more could you want!
We also have the largest selection of beer on tap with the full James Squire range as well as some international favourites. The White Star has a north facing beer garden which allows patrons to relax in the beautiful Albany sunshine.
We cater for all your private functions, business dinners, birthdays and weddings.
Just to top it off, The White Star Hotel has live music Thursday to Sunday. Check out our FB page for the Entertainment Guide!!
