Hospice provides a home away from home environment for terminally ill patients needing 24 hour palliative care. It also provides a respite service.
The serene surroundings and gardens provide a wonderfully peaceful environment for patients, their loved ones and friends.

| Hospice Volunteers |
|

|
Hospice depends heavily on volunteers to complement the work carried out by the registered nursing staff.
Volunteers may work weekly, fortnightly or monthly rosters covering four and a half hour shifts on either morning, afternoon, evening or nights, over seven days a week, fifty two weeks in the year, so there is a wide range to choose from. |

Volunteers Testimonials
|
|
Trish "When I retired from a very hectic and busy lifestyle, I decided to become a volunteer and I chose Hospice. That was three years ago and I haven't looked back. You gain so much more than you can give sharing and witnessing the dignity and love around you."
Doreen "I have been volunteering all my adult life but the past fourteen years have included Hospice. It has been such an enormous privilege working with such wonderful people, such rewarding work caring for others."

| New Horizons Complementary Therapies |
|

|
New Horizons provides complementary therapies using Massage, Reiki, Healing Touch and Reflexology in a beautiful calming environment.
Volunteer professionals provide the services as well as volunteer hosts who greet you and make you feel very welcome.
These therapeutic services are offered not only to people with terminal illness, but to those carers or people suffering from stress related illnesses.
|
|
Surrounded by cared for native gardens, New Horizons is exactly that, a haven to relax in and leave feeling like a new person.
New Horizons operates between 9.30am to 2.00pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays. Valmai Nathan, the co-ordinator will always welcome anyone that can help.

| Butterflies Opportunity Shop |
 |
Our Opportunity Shop is well stocked by the generosity of the community and is recognised to be the best quality for the best price.
The team of volunteers work morning or afternoon shifts, 10am to 1pm or 1pm to 4pm, Monday to Friday or Saturday 10am to 1pm.
They raise a huge amount of money, are very busy but have lots of fun and meet so many people. |
| Barb Thomas, the co-ordinator says the customers eventually become your friends, some even graduating to becoming a volunteer and of course, help is always needed and appreciated. The girls are very friendly so why not drop in for a chat. |
| Hospice Support Group |
| The Chaplain, Gaye Burnett, runs a support group to provide comfort to newly bereaved people. There is a continuing program of ongoing support by way of meetings over a cuppa and chat, and a laugh maybe, and when ready, a social outing such as lunch or a movie. Wonderful friendships are made, some move on, some stay and the support is given by regular volunteers so Gaye will always welcome your help. |
| Donations and Bequests |
Hospice is a private facility that belongs to the wider community of the Great Southern. It is a non profit organisation that derives it's income from brokering "bed days" to the WA Country Health Service (around 70%) and our fund raising activities (30%).
Donations and bequests have always played a huge role in the running of Hospice and are very much appreciated , needed and encouraged. Sponsorship is always very welcome and the board of management will always be very happy to discuss any ideas.
Many businesses and organisations in the community are very generous with donations. |

Pictured are Derek Morgan presenting a cheque to the Chairman of the Hospice board of management, Chris Walker.

| Fund Raising |
There are always events on the agenda to raise much needed funds so volunteers are always being asked to help out. It may be selling raffle tickets or helping with the street appeal, maybe assisting at the Albany Show or Butterflies Day.
Fund Raising co-ordinator, Carole Webb says it only equates to a few hours every now and again so she really welcomes your enquiries, especially if you don't want to commit yourself to a roster. Carole produces a news letter every three months called "THE FOUR SEASON'S" and will happily forward anyone a copy. A new comer to Albany three years ago, Carole said volunteering has changed her life for the better and has met so many wonderful people, so encourages others to do the same. |
