Centennial Art Prize entries closing soon!

Monday, February 6th, 2012

Entries close on the 17th February at 4pm to have artworks entered into the 2012 Centennial Art Prize. Entry payments of $15 per entry can be made at the Vancouver arts Centre before this date!

Entry forms are available in hard copy from the Vancouver arts Centre, Albany Public Library, Gallery 500, Haeses picture Framers and the Albany Camera House in the Dog Rock shopping centre.

For the first year entry forms are also available to print on-line off the City of Albany webpage under the Vancouver Arts Centre. This Centennial art prize page is also the place for all information about the prize and will be updated as the exhibition of artworks develops.

“The Centennial Art Prize will celebrate 50 years in 2012 and if that isn’t a good reason to produce an artwork and enter, I don’t know what is! If you are a professional, amateur or student artist this is your chance to enter an art prize with the weight of history, win acclaim and some of the $13,000 prize money. I would encourage everyone to be a part of the prize and let others enjoy your work”
Natalie Radivojevic, Coordinator

The Centennial Art Prize is a 2 week exhibition of paintings, prints, textiles, photography and 3 –dimensional artworks coinciding with the Easter holidays. The prize has become a tradition that the whole family enjoys together, no matter what age. The prize has 8 Judge awarded categories, including one just for local artists and a popular vote which is always debated and discussed with passion!

Exhibition opens 4-18 April 2012 at Centennial Hall, the showgrounds, Lockyer Ave, Albany

New Partnership To Enhance Great Southern Wine And Food Festival

Great Southern Wine & Food Festival

Great Southern Wine & Food Festival

The Great Southern Wine and Food Festival has moved to April and teamed up with the Harboursound Music Festival to produce a festival that takes advantage of the mild autumn weather and quality entertainment available in Albany at the time.

The major tasting event on Sunday 18 April showcases twenty of the best Great Southern wineries, regional produce and encore performances from some of the international and national entertainment provided through the Harboursound Music Festival.

‘We’ve moved the Festival from December to April to coincide with Harboursound,’ said Great Southern Wine Producers’ Association (GSWPA) Executive Officer John Gates, ‘this should give both Festivals a better chance of sustainability and help to turn autumn in the Great Southern into a really exciting Festival season’.

‘With Harboursound concerts and workshops and GSWPA member satellite events scheduled over the whole weekend, this will be a great weekend to be in Albany’, he said.

The Festival will be held in and around a large marquee on the Grassy Knoll in central Albany on Sunday 18 April. Details are available from www.greatsouthernwines.com.au.

Listening to Inspiring and Interesting Stories about Women

Listening to Inspiring and Interesting Stories about Women

Today is International Women’s Day and this morning we attended a delicious breakfast  at the Vancouver Café and enjoyed the harmonies of  “Slap My Thighs and Call Me Barbara”  and listening to some stories about women.

Alison has started a wall of honour  for adding a photo and a few words about acknowleding women who are or have been in our lives.

We would like to expand this opportunity to honour significant women by adding a photo, or just a couple of paragraphs on the Gateway Blog.

Please click here to contact us and we can post it on the blog, there is no time limit, anytime this week.  Who is going to be the first one?
