Extraordinary licenses – should they be banned? By Anne Simpson

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

If you commit a traffic offence(s) and have your driver’s license taken off you, why should you be allowed to apply for  an extraordinary one? What was the point of meting out punishment in the first place?

A country magistrate has been recently quoted as wanting to ban extraordinary licenses so that people who commit offences on the road actually have to deal with the consequences of their actions and think twice about drink driving or speeding or behaving recklessly on the road. It appears that the law society opposes this, saying that it could impose unnecessary hardship on people if they were stranded at home and unable to get to work, take kids to school etc.  (more…)

Are we serious about stopping drunk drivers, or aren’t we? Rob Daniel

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

More and more young people killed on roads around Australia, around the world. This is not OK. Are we serious about stopping drunk drivers or not? If we were serious then there would be no exceptions, no extraordinary license, no bleating about appeals. As soon as someone is caught drink driving, take away their license for life. No reprieve and ‘I’m sorry’ wont cut it. (more…)

Ringwould Jaguar and Sonja Johnson Olympics update No. 2

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Monday 11th August
It was a very successful cross-country day; the rain held off until the last four riders, no one got hurt as far as I know, there were no horse falls, and the crowd enjoyed it. My sympathy goes out to Andrew Nicholson, sixth time Olympian, who fell off at the 28th fence, and to Alex Hua Tian, the first Hong Kong Olympian, who fell off at the 8th fence, as well as the others who fell foul of the new rule that makes a rider fall cause for elimination.

 Hello Everyone,
We have arrived in Hong Kong after a difficult flight, there was a typhoon attacking the S China coast & Hong Kong and the airport was closed, so we were diverted to Singapore. Fortunately the Qantas pilot had warned us of the possibility & that we had plenty of fuel so no worries, just a 7 hr longer trip.
