Online Marketing Tips

After delivering 14 Step 1 seminars of the Small Business Online program, it turns out that many of you already have a website. A lot of you have really good websites. So what’s next??

Let’s look at OLogo Blue Writingnline Marketing. Your website already gives you an online presence that tells people about you, who you are, what you do and where you are. But we still need to get people interested. Marketing yourself online needn’t be such a challenge. There are a few pointers to remember:

WEBSITES

  • Keywords – If you have a website, research keywords. There are several free online tools that can help you define your keywords. www.wordstream.com/keywordsis a good example. Simply visit the site and type in a phrase eg “Albany WA” and you’ll see a list of keywords that are commonly searched for by web users that relate to “Albany WA”. Once you have your keywords that can be added to your website.
  • Google Sitemaps – allows you to submit your website pages for monitoring by Google’s Indexing service providing you with detailed reports about the visibility of your pages.
  • Submit your site – to the main search engines. This is like an invitation to Google, Yahoo, MSN etc. to come and “check me out”.

EMAIL CAMPAIGNS

  • No unsolicited emails – Ensure that you only email contacts who have agreed to being contacted via email.
  • Multiple email addresses – such as unsubscribe@mycompany.com.au, noreply or info will enable you to monitor responses, their source will present your organsiation professionally.
  • Email address databases – should be well maintained and current.
  • Involve your ISP – to ensure that your Internet Service Provider is going to allow you to send (potentially) hundreds of emails at a time.
  • Measure a campaign’s success – to ensure that you’re not wasting your time and effort.
  • Proof read your content – as sending out newsletters or emails with mistakes can be extremely detrimental to your professional image.
  • Offline marketing – such as including your email and web address on stationary, business cards, media advertising, vehicles etc. gets you noticed.

There are of course plenty of professionals out there who can assist, but by following these simple guidelines, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to manage your own e-marketing program.
