Nearly as exciting as opening your Christmas presents

Lids work in progressProbably in my case it’s more exciting, and it has been going on for months.

Can you imagine what it is like to get all these little bags, some not so little bags and boxes, given to you on a regular bases, well I do, and it is very exciting.

Majority of people will think I am strange, different or straight out crazy, yes some of it is true, but I don’t mind as I continue to collect all my treasures given to me so generously.

The making of evidence

When you open each bag or box it contains an array of colours shapes and sizes, some I have no idea where they may have come from or what they may have come off, but their collection of jewel like colours continue to entice me, while I sort, the different, shapes, sizes and materials, plastic and metal.
What am I talking about, all those lovely lids that everyone, maybe not all, have been collecting for me for the last 2 years, and yes they are gifts from the heart, as not every one is generous enough to make the effort or the time to collect all their lids into a bag or container and drop it off or organize them to be picked up by one of my generous collectors or myself.
I know there are many people helping by the many bags I get and it is amazing how quickly those little bags accumulate into a lot of lids. Thousands actually it’s great.
I have had people collecting all over the place, Lake Grace, Newdegate Dumbleyung, Kukerin Pingaring, Collie, Albany, Kalgoorlie Yallingup, Perth, Kulin, Kondinin, Wagin, Mandurah, Varley , Lake King, Darken,  Denmark, Ravensthorpe, Barragup, Northam, Dowerin, Quick Shot Coffee in Albany, 6Muzz Buzz stores in Perth,  Cafes in Claremont, Hospitals in Lake Grace, Armadale, Collie, Narrogin, Dumbleyung, Wagin and Glen Haven in Albany, schools in Lake Grace, Kukerin, Newdegate, Northam, TAFE in Albany, Plantagenet winery, Clean Away in Albany, Ag dept in Albany, and the recycle centre at Wickepin, These are but a few that I know, many I don’t know as they are friends , family, neighbours, residents,  work colleges, and many others that  I can’t thank enough for helping  out.
It has been amazing the support and enthusiasm I have encountered from so many people.
My passion in my art practice is to create art out of everyday throw away materials, I have been doing this for a number of years playing and experimenting with materials. And enjoying the response of people when they realise what the materials are that I have used in my art pieces and sculptures, it is a challenge and very labour intensive and many times it relies on the generous donations of other people’s rubbish.

Lids work in progress
For those that don’t know, I am busy collecting milk bottle lids or any plastic lid that is about the same size as them, and lids off long life milk containers, metal lids of beer bottles, wine bottles etc, but to save any decisions any plastic or metal lids that you may wish to start or continue collecting is okay. For further information just email me on kerriearg@hotmail.com or ring 98654042
But its okay, for those die hard recyclers and those that have been collecting, and of course those that would like to collect, you don’t have to stop, I am still collecting and you can still continue to collect after March when this sculpture is due to be finished I have a couple more on my agenda. The present sculpture is for ‘Sculpture by the Sea’ at Cottesloe in March 2010 and I am trying to collect 70,000 milk bottle size plastic lids any colour or type of Plastic, which have to have 240 000 holes drilled in them and 120 000 cable ties to lace them together.
But really what I am trying to say is thank you to all the people that have helped me so far in my project and all those wonderful people who take the time to collect their rubbish and donate it to a worthy cause whether it is mine or someone else’s, Like our wearable arts your effort does not go unappreciated.
