Scholarships open for country athletes

Monday, 13 May 2013

  • State Government helps regional athletes access better training and coaching
  • Scholarships ranging from $750-$2,250 per athlete available

The search is on for sporting stars of the future in regional Western Australia.

The State Government is calling on talented regional athletes to apply for scholarships to help with the costs of travel and training.

The 2013-2014 Country Athlete Scholarships, supported by the State Government’s Royalties for Regions program, helps regional athletes offset costs associated with daily training and allow them to compete in events they might otherwise be unable to attend.

The scholarship program has already helped athletes like BMX rider Lauren Reynolds and footballers Adam Hunter, Anthony Morabito and Tayte Pears to excel in their chosen sports.

Athletes aged 13-21 and living outside the Perth metropolitan area could receive scholarships ranging from $750 to $2,250.

In addition, athletes who lived more than 500km from Perth could be eligible for further funding of up to $1,750.

Landscaping with Rock & Stones

Written by albanygateway on Friday, 03 May 2013 12:44. Posted in Gardening

Rocks and stones can be used in many ways when landscaping, from large stand alone features to more practical purposes, such as drainage and inorganic mulch.
WHERE TO START
Thinking about your existing home and garden is a good place to start. How does the current situation limit your options?  Are there already a lot of different colours, textures and patterns in the building, garden and surrounds?  What about the existing environment?  Do you already have stones in your yard?   What colours and textures work?  If the garden already has a wide variety, would it be better to use stones, as a common thread, to draw everything together?  It is usually best to keep things simple and use the same type of stone throughout the area.  Variations can be made, if needed, by using different stones from a complimentary range, such as Cobbles, Riverstones, glacial chip and stone fines.  It is a good idea to think about how you want the area to look in a few years time.
