    THE MAKING


    A"new" cottage from recycled
    materials using the early
    settlers approach.


    The traditional 
    earth and chicken wire
    method of lining
    internal walls 
    (the "new" out house).

    HISTORY
    Built in the late 1800's
    by the Hassell family.

    The homestead can be
    viewed from Cameron Road.


    The Hassell homestead is 
    located 5 kms east of Jerramungup
    near the Gairdner River Bridge.

    The JERRAMUNGUP HERITAGE TRAIL
    is a self-guiding walk which traces the development of the Jerramungup District and its historic involvement in the War Service Land Settlement Scheme.

    SITE 1

    Tourist Information Centre
    Completed and opened in 1988 to celebrate the Bicentennial

    SITE 2

    Old Powerhouse
    Opened in Aril 1963, The Powerhouse supplied the town's power until July 1980, when the State Energy Commission grid system from Kwinana to Jerramungup opened.

    SITE 3

    Former War Service Office

    Used by Major Cameron to administer
    the War Service Land Settlement scheme, 1952 to 1958

    SITE 4

    Jerramungup Town Hall
    Opened in April 1958 by Mr M.R. Watts, MLA after a concerted community effort
    to raise funds
    from the collection and 
    sale of mallee roots by early settlers.

    Shire of Jerramungup Administration Building

    Constructed to house the newly created Shire in 1982 and opened on December 17th, 1982 by the Hon. June Craig, MLC, Minister for Local Government

    The Jerramungup Heritage Trail is part of the Heritage Trail Network.

    A network established to commemorate the 1988 Bicentennary through the establishment of routes designed to enhance awareness and enjoyment of WA's natural and cultural heritage.

    A map of the Heritage Trail is located on the outside of the Tourist Centre near the front door entrance.
