A Review of the Evening
This unique event, its first of a kind in rural WA, enthralled the audience for over 4 hours, providing wonderful entertainment and a quality of voice that resonated loud, clear and pitch perfect.
Mad About Ewe got the show started with their first of 3 performances. This local quartet is well known around town, but to see them on a stage with all the trimmings was a new experience that took our breath away. We were particulary surprised by their second performance - a tribute to the sixties - which saw them in a whole new guise - and charmed by a cheeky performance in their final set.
Vocal Evolution was the first of the guest performers. An all male group, of approximately 20 singers, directed by Gina D'Souza. They finished their set with a sing-a-long Beachboys Medley (or more of a hum-a-long as no one dared to raise their voice in case they got told to be quiet).
Next on stage was Audacious a female quartet who took us into their hearts, drawing songs mainly from the jazz era (very cruisy).
We were then treated to a polished performance from Bad Habits a simply stunning male quartet who sung songs from broadway to pop.
The final performers to grace the stage were the 35 or so ladies of the Perth Harmony Chorus, directed by Master Director Cathy Rainey. Their verve and voice moved us.
The finale of the A Cappella Exposure was the Massed Chorus, when all performers joined on stage to perform Lida Rose. A heartwarming and beautiful experience. (On the technical side I'd like to mention how smoothly all the performers managed to get on and off stage and sing with such gusto in what was rather a tight space.)
A flawless night was capped off with the talents of the Bill Mac Trio who were joined by Carol Macintyre for some sublime jazz. A real treat.
Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Craig Smart. Craig, who worked as a teacher at Darkan High School in 1989, currently works with ABC radio in Perth. |
