Council Meetings

Council meetings are held in the Shire Council Chambers every third Thursday of the month.

LICENSING A VEHICLE

As an agent of the Department of Planning & Infrastructure (Licensing Branch), Council undertakes the collection of all vehicle licenses, driver licenses and firearm licenses. Any questions in regard to licensing can be answered by the Administration staff at the Shire office.

SELLING PROPERTY

It is important that Council be advised of all transfers of land or changes of owners address. Prompt notification in the appropriate form will help assist Councils administration.

FIREBREAKS

All landowners within the Shire are responsible to ensure that they have complied with the Shires Firebreak Order.

If you are not familiar with the firebreak requirements for your land, contact the Shire office to obtain a free copy of the  Fire Break Order .

 PRESERVING OUR NATIVE VEGETATION

Before removing any trees or native vegetation from you land, please check with the Shire, as there are restrictions on clearing according to land zoning.

RUBBISH DISPOSAL

Council provides a rubbish and recycling collection once a week to townsite residents. Landholders other than townsite collection, are responsible for the disposal of rubbish in a satisfactory manner, either on their properties or at the Broomehill rubbish tip. Wheelie bins and recycling crates can be purchased from the Shire office.

 

LIBRARY SERVICES

Council operates a free lending Library open from Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The Library Officer will be able to assist you, and below are listed some of the services the Library provides.

A diverse selection of 1,500 books, videos, CD ROMs, cassettes & magazines catering for junior and adult tastes

150 different books, videos, and other selections arrive every six weeks to give members more choice.

The friendly and helpful staff can also assist you with the following:-

Ordering in books, videos, etc of your choice

Photocopying and faxing services

Hook up to the Internet for only $3 per hour.

Board games for hire

Free use of electric typewriter

Library bags designed by local school students

LANDCARE

Enquiries regarding sustainable farming systems, diversification, funding and catchment groups can be directed to the Landcare Officer at the Shire.

BROOMEHILL  RECREATIONAL  COMPLEX

The Broomehill Recreational Complex is located off the Tie Line Road and provides a variety of sporting facilities to the residents such as Golf, Tennis, Bowls, Cricket, Hockey and a club house for sporting or private functions. Enquires can be made through the Complex Secretary.

TOWN HALL

The Broomehill Town Hall may be hired for private functions. Hall equipment such as chairs and tables can also be hired to Shire residents.

THINKING OF BUILDING?

Town Planning approval and a Building License must be obtained before commencing work on any of the following anywhere within the Shire:-Erection of any building or outbuilding

  1. Alteration or any additions to existing buildings

  2. Demolition or removal of any building.

  3. Construction of any below ground swimming pool

  4. All houses must be designed to resist earthquake activity by a practising structural engineer.

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH

Any queries regarding health matters can be directed to Council office including pest control, effluent disposal (septic tanks and other alternative systems), noise issues and other health related matters.

TOWN PLANNING

The objectives of the Town Planning Scheme are:

  1. To zone the Scheme Area for the purposes described in the Scheme;

  2. To secure the amenity health and convenience of the Scheme Area and the residents thereof;

  3. To make provisions as to the nature and location of buildings and the size of lots when used for certain purposes;

  4. The preservation of places of natural beauty, of historic buildings, and objects of historical and scientific interest; and
  5. To make provision for other matters necessary or incidental to Town Planning and housing.

ENGINEERING WORKS

Enquiries regarding road and drainage matters including verge and access control, should be made to the Works Supervisor.

Council plant may be available for hire on private works basis within the Shire area depending on Council_ s works program commitments. Persons desirous of hiring plant or obtaining private works should consult the Shire Works Supervisor. Estimates for work can be provided, however, work is carried out on an actual cost basis. Council does not hire any plant without a Council operator.

DOGS

Please note that Council approval is required to keep more than two dogs within the Shire and all dogs must be registered. Registrations fall due on the 31 October, and may be renewed at the Shire office.If you own a dog, you have a legal responsibility to keep it under control, either within a fence area on your property or on a leash when in public. Your dog must always be on a leash in public except at designated dog exercise areas. Reserve 634, Reserve 1698 and Lot 24 Broomehill Kojonup Road are designated dog exercise areas.
