| My name is Maria Penny. I was born in the dry hinterland of Western Australia at Narrogin in 1972 but now live on the South Coast at Albany. As a child I would watch fascinated as my father painted.
I am working in the traditional Aboriginal art style as shown to me by my father.
I am inspired by nature and historic stories of my culture as passed down from the Elders.
Inspiration also comes from the Australian bush and the sea and the animals which are unique to this continent. Our tribe made walkabouts to the great water from our inland areas. I use acrylics mainly for the definitive clarity and colour in our harsh environment. |
