Two seen breaching off the HMAS Perth this afternoon, a treat for the tourists at Whale World.

22nd August

Group spotted at Michaelmas Reef, also at Nanarup Beach. On board the Albany Whale Tours visitors were privileged to see a curious Southern Right lay beneath and alongside the vessel for an hour and a half.

Six Southern Rights in the Middle of the Sound towards Harold Point

 

Gorgeous Juvenile Seal basking in the sun on the rocks at Whale World, later playing in the water just off shore. Diners in the Cafe had a great view of the seal frolicking about in the water.

20th August

Few seen breaching at the back of Flat Rock, Whale World in the afternoon.

False Killer Whale found dead at Brambles Beach, Quaranup by the Dept of Environment and Conservation. Died of Toxaemia, blood poisoning from bacteria in the wound, caused by a rope caught around and severing the fin.

False Killer Whale sighted by Albany Whale Tours near Quaranup, reported to Department of Environment and Conservation. Swimming very slowly, also had a badly damaged fin.

1 juvenile Humpback seen by Silver Star at the back of the islands in the King George Sound, this humpback was very docile, also with unusual amount of white markings.

The same Southern Right mother and Calf in Goode Beach, have been here for a few days, playing right in the cove, just off the rocks. Found a lovely spot to shelter. A lone Southern Right made its way into Goode Beach also, further along from the mother and calf. Southern right spotted at Whale World heading towards Bald Head.

Another Southern Right and new born calf  in the protected area of Cheynes Beach, has stayed close to shore for the last couple of days.

Southern Right mother and calf sheltering in the protected waters of Goode Beach and Mistaken Island. A half grown Southern Right playing by Limestone Head. In the afternoon, another Southern Right spotted at Middleton Beach and Gull Rock.

Southern Right cow and calf in calmer waters near the Breakwater at Whale World. Mother is keeping the calf protected from the fierce weather conditions present today.

Mother and Calf seen at Whale World, been coming back to the same spot for the last couple of days, its very protected in the area off Whale World. The calf was lying on its back for quite a while with its flippers up in the air as if it was sunbaking its under belly.

Mother and calf gracefully frolicking around Whale World for a number of hours, suckling and playing. So close we could have stepped off the deck onto the whale.

A stranded Minke Whale found on the Southern shore of Princess Royal Harbour. With help from CALM the whale was freed and was last seen making its way into deeper waters in King George Sound. 

11th October

Cow and calf sighted at the entrance of Princess Royal Harbour then later was seen off Mistaken Island heading towards Bald Head.

 

 

10th October

1 Southern Right Whale seen from Marine Drive breaching in the middle of King George Sound.

2 yearlings around Breaksea Island and 1 yearling found at the entrance of Princess Royal Harbour. 

 

11th July

 

1 Humpback between Michaelmas Island and Breaksea Island

Several pods seen from Marine drive, 1 pod breaching 5 or 6 times within the hour.

10th July

Southern Right cow and calf in Princes Royal Harbour.

1 yearling between Michaelmas and Breaksea Island. 10 Humpbacks at Limestone Head. 3 sighted at Seal Island.1 Humpback yearling at Flat Rock just off Whale World.

 

9th July

 

3 Humpbacks between the Islands travelling towards Seal Island to join up with another 3 Humpbacks. 2 Humpbacks at Michaelmas Island.

 

8th July

 

10 to 12 Humpbacks at Mistaken Island, traveling towards Marine Drive.
